KVCH names new chief medical officer

8/28/2009

Don Solberg, MD was named to the position of chief medical officer at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital according to Paul Nurick, CEO.

He will be replacing Dr. Rick Johnson who served as medical director of the hospital for the last six years.  Johnson has accepted a position in Arizona to be medical director of several clinics and to work in private practice.

“Dr. Solberg is eminently qualified to continue the work of leading the medical changes that have placed KVCH at its high level of quality performance. He will be instrumental in further expanding KVCH’s high national ranking in hospital performance into the outpatient clinics as well,” said Johnson.

Solberg will continue his clinical practice at The Valley Clinic while serving as chief medical officer. In his new role, he will be assuming administrative duties and will be responsible for developing and implementing quality systems within the hospital and hospital-owned clinics.

“We feel privileged to have Dr. Solberg step into this leadership position at KVCH to carry on the advanced quality initiatives already set in place and to lead us into the next generation of performance improvement,” said Paul Nurick, CEO of KVCH.

Jack Baker, president of KVCH’s board of commissioners, said Solberg’s personal and professional qualities will serve the hospital well to champion the hospital’s values and mission of patient safety and quality care.

“Dr. Solberg’s insight into the community, based on his past involvement and his knowledge of medical services available in our community, make him an excellent choice. He has the respect of his colleagues and the community and his involvement as the chief medical officer can only benefit the hospital and the patients we serve.”

Solberg has been a physician at The Valley Clinic for 30 years. “I am excited to accept this role and to continue to build on the years I have spent serving the community as a physician. My mission is to continue improving on the quality standards Dr. Johnson established and put forth new advances in order to sustain the best quality for our patients.”

Dr. Don Solberg is board-certified in family medicine. He earned his medical degree from University of Washington Medical School, Seattle, Washington and completed his Family Practice residency in Greeley, Colorado.

He is a member of the Washington Academy of Family Physicians and is a past president of the organization. Solberg is also a member of the Ellensburg Morning Rotary Club.
